The Common Cold and How to Make it Bearable

At some point in your life, you've gotten the common cold. Although such a pesky and very common germ, there still remains no cure for the sickness. So while your nose dribbles and you cough like never before, we have a few remedies to make the illness... well not so rough.

Drink Hot Liquids 

While this one may seem a little obvious, it's amazing how many people over look this when suffering from a cold. A sore, scratchy throat and something warm gliding across it is going to offer instant relief. The New York Times even did a report on a study comparing warm drinks to normal ones when people have a cold. The results? The majority of people said their symptoms were eased when they drank the warm beverage.

Getting Plenty of Sleep 

One again, this one may be a little redundant but it's one commonly overlooked. Many people attempt to continue their daily schedules when they feel a cold coming on. Instead of stay home and resting we go to work, school, or run errands that leave our bodies drained. Matter of fact, Discover Magazine says that lack of sleep actually makes you more prone to catching a
cold to begin with. So if lack of sleep can lead to a cold, do you really think skipping out on sleep with a cold will help it? 

Stay Hydrated 

Drink fluids, drink fluids, and drink fluids. Along with drinking warm beverages hydrating beverages as important as well. Because you lose fluids through sweating, urinating, and lack of food intake during a cold, it's important to replenish these. Hydrating beverages can very from sport drinks to some teas to build your fluids back up. However, water remains the number one thing to keep you hydrated. Health Central lists many other fluids to drink when trying to stay hydrated through a cold.
