Basketball season is in full force as national ranking teams
go head to head playing tooth and nail to prove who’s best.
That wholesome
competition runs deep in the McCallie family as Duke’s head coach Joanne
McCallie goes up against daughter Maddie McCallie a guard for Elon Phoenix.
It will be a game like on other in history because it has
never happened before.
Coach McCallie has been with the blue devils since 2006 and
two of players have been drafted as first round picks in the WBNA.
Coach McCallie has led Duke’s Women team to eight NCAA
tournaments and her honors include National, Conference, and College Coach of
the Year.
Maddie has been a star player since high school being a two
time first team all-conference selection in basketball and other sports.
Maddie transferred into Elon and graduated in 2016 but
continues to pursue a MBA. Her current average consists of 20.5 minutes a game,
3.7 points per game, and 1.9 rebounds.
As fate would have it is time for the student to prove
herself to the teacher (even if the teacher is mom), but more than likely Coach
McCallie has a good feel of what Maddie is capable of doing on the court as she
has to get special permission to attend her daughter’s games.
