Get Better Sleep.
I can tell you from experience, reading right before bed will give you some of the best sleep. (That is, if you can put your book down in order to go to sleep.) Reading for six minutes eases stress of the human body. The less stressed you are, the easier it is to fall asleep and stay asleep for a longer period.
Improve Memory
Reading may be a great pass time, but it is also a major workout to the brain. We workout the brain by putting pictures to the words that we are reading. Reading about an experience is about the same as living it yourself. These types of stimulations to the brain enhances recollection.
Helps Develop Social Skills
Reading can actually physically change the way you think, making you more empathetic. Having the feeling of experiencing someone's stories can help you connect with people easier. I know reading has tremendously helped my very lacking social skills.
Next time you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed pick up a book and start reading. Make sure you pick up an actual book instead of an e book. E-books lack "spatial navigability" this is how we know where we are at in the book, and on a page. E-books create a sense of an "infinite page." If you do use an e-book, make sure you turn page numbers on to help with the lack of "spatial navigability."
Happy Reading!
