Picking out the Best Dog for Your Lifestyle

Dogs can make great pets if you pick the right one for your lifestyle. One of the biggest reasons dogs are returned to shelters is because the dog's personality doesn't match up with the lifestyle of the new family. We're here to help you make the right choice.

Are you Active?

If you're an active person it would make sense to get a dog that's just as active as you are. If you love physical activity such as running, kayaking, hiking, or swimming you should find a dog that loves those types of activities as well. Stay away from dogs like Dachshunds or Bulldogs that may have hard time keeping up with you do to their build. Outside Online offers a list of active dog breeds that are sure to suit your adventurous lifestyle.

Or Are You More Laid Back?

Dogs-Aholic claims that there are in fact some dogs that are better for a laid back lifestyle. Canine friends that you can lay on the couch and binge watch your favorite show with all day. I personally have this type of canine that loves snuggling on the couch for hours on end. He'll still go on walks and play a game of fetch, but overall his favorite place is next to me and in front of a television.

Things to Remember

It's always important to remember that whether you have an active or laid-back dog each breed, and even further each individual dog, has it's own personal needs and those needs must be met in order for the dog to maintain a healthy life style.
