In Recent Sports news, ESPN anchor Jemele Hill tweeted her personal opinion and views about Donald Trump. (tweets below) Hill called Trump a white supremacist and pointed out the majority of his associates are the same. According to Merriam-Webster, White Supremacy is defined as "a person who believes that the white race is inherently superior to other races and that white people should have control over people of other races." Once the White House received word of these tweets by Hill, The Press Secretary immediately stated criticism of the president was a "fireable offense by ESPN." Later Trump tweeted that due to Jemele Hill, ESPN's ratings have dropped. That was an incorrect statement. According to CNN Media, "ESPN had 90 million subscribers as of September 2016, the most recent numbers it has reported."
In other recent news, the sports world has been very controversial. In 2016, Colin Kaepernick (NFL QB) took a knee during the National Anthem. During the time, police brutality was being exposed day after day and many of those encounters led to police killing unarmed minorities specifically black teens & adults. Kaepernick taking the knee symbolized that the anthem we sing as a country doesn't represent or stand for us all. Also note : America's National Anthem was created during the height of racism and discrimination. Since 2016, Other NFL Players & Teams have recently joined his petition and have taken a knee as well.
Well, Trump had an opinion about these events and didn't beat around the bush. He had a press conference and stated that the NFL owners need to "Get that son of a bitch off the field and he's fired." There seems to be the same response from Trump and his administration to these two acts of freedom of speech. That response is fire the individual if they criticize you, fire someone if they don't reflect the same as you. As we all know, Trump has more experience of firing people than he does running an Office. Based off only a few examples, that statement seems rather true.
You're Fired, You're Fired and You Too. The Presidency or The Apprentice?
