McDonald's Unsuccessfully Brought Back The Sauce

As we all probably know by now, McDonald's welcomed back the now famous Szechuan Sauce on October 7th, which they had for a limited time in 1998 with the release of the movie Mulan. Due to it's increasing popularity from the hit show, Rick and Morty, McDonald's decided it would be a good idea to bring it back to consumers, or so they thought.

Unfortunately, they only decided to bring it back for one day in select locations. They also had a limited stock, which did not go well due to so many fans lining up to get their hands on the beloved McDonald's treasure. That left them furious, as they started protesting and caused riots due to the shortage.

The main voice actor from the show, Justin Roiland, tweeted out to clarify that the show's producers had nothing to do with the whole thing. It was clear that he was not happy with how McDonald's carried out this PR stunt. (Is it even considered a PR plan?)

To be fair, McDonald's sent out an apology and now promises to bring back the sauce to disappointed fans once again this winter, this time with hopefully ENOUGH sauce to fulfil their demands.

I, for one, think McDonald's should have known how much Rick and Morty fans were dying to try the ridiculously desired sauce, and think they brought it back just for kicks without thinking it completely through. Their plan was very poorly executed, because it was obvious that each McDonald's location would have had to deal with crowds and crowds of crazed fans, especially since they were bringing it back for ONE DAY ONLY. It is, after all, a popular show right now.

Fans were first introduced to the sauce on one of the new episodes from season 3 of Rick and Morty, where Rick travels back into his memory simply to taste the delicious sauce once more. Since that episode, the fans were curious as to why their favorite drunken mad scientist would crave such an old, specific sauce, and so they bombarded McDonald's with tweets demanding them to bring the sauce back, "for the sake of Rick".

All in all, McDonald's had a good idea, but seeing it fail this way is kind of upsetting. It would have been an amazing success, had they made enough sauce to last at least a few days rather than one.
