Week 6 in the NFL Turns out to Be Another Brutal One

Another week, another star player goes down. This week though took perhaps the biggest name, and arguably best QB in the game, Aaron Rodgers. The 2017 season has not been friendly to the big names, as the trend of superstars suffering severe injuries continued. It began Sunday as the NFC North leading Green Bay Packers went to Minneapolis to take on the second place Vikings. Only eight minutes into the first quarter, Aaron Rodgers took a ferocious hit from Minnesota standout Anthony Barr while scrambling, in which his throwing shoulder was driven into the ground. From there on, it was all Minnesota. Jerick McKinnon continued to do a more than serviceable job taking over the starting RB spot in wake of star rookie Dalvin Cook's injury, in which he gained 99 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Minnesota would ease to 23-10, in which they would add insult-to-injury to the Packers and take over the first place position in the NFC North. Unfortunately for the Packers, they would find out Rodgers suffered a broken collar bone and will miss at minimum 8 weeks.

Staying local, the Chiefs looked continue their torrid start, entering the week 6 with a 5-0 record and #1 seed in the AFC. The Chiefs took on the struggling Pittsburgh Steelers, who got absolutely demolished by Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs started the game off terribly, gaining only 6 yards in the first half. Though giving up several big plays to Le'Veon Bell and crew, the Chiefs were luckily able to go in halftime trailing 12-3. Fast forwarding to the 4th, the offense began to finally heat up and Alex Smith would hit the electric De'Anthony Thomas for a 57 yard TD pass to make the score 12-10. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the Steeler's would score on probably the flukiest play of the season, in which dismal cornerback Phillip Gaines would take a would-be easy interception off of his face and land in superstar Antonio Brown's hands for a 51 yard TD. The score would make it a two score game with too little time for the Chiefs to make a comeback. The Steelers would take the game 19-13 and stretch their first place lead in the AFC North.

Though their unbeaten streak ended, it was not all bad news for the Chiefs. With a divisional game between in the Los Angeles Chargers and Oakland Raiders and an embarrassing flop from the Denver Broncos against the wide receiver-less New York Giants, the Chiefs were still able to keep a healthy 1.5 game lead in the AFC West and stay the #1 seed in the AFC. The Chiefs look to gear up for a short week and head to Oakland on Thursday night to take on the Raiders and show off one of the NFL's most classic rivalries. A win here would be monumental for the Chiefs, as it would a put massive and possibly final nail in the coffin of the once thought to be division favorite's season.
