The NBA continues to grow as one of the most predictable
games in all of sports. When modern super teams emerged, once LeBron James left
for Miami, it caused a chain reaction throughout the league causing only a few
teams to arise as favorites every year. Although some new teams are in the mix,
the NBA standings look similar year after year.
In the East, the big
news over the offseason was the trade of Kyrie Irving for Isaiah Thomas III and
it has paid off well. The Celtics are sitting proudly on top of the East, but
just like last year, the Cavs are not far behind. These two will continue to
battle throughout the season for who gets the trip to the NBA Finals. Teams
like the Raptors and Sixers will make the season interesting, but they’ll be
overmatched in a seven-game series.
The real surprise this season does come out of the West. The
Houston Rockets are on top over the Warriors and Spurs. Although it’s still
early in the season, the James Hardin led Rockets are showing off their skills
early and often but will continue to be tested by Golden State and San Antonio.
One team to keep an eye on will be to see how Portland does
this year. The Trailblazers have been building a team under the guidance of
Paul Allen who is known for taking a risk on lesser known players to build his
teams. With a cast of rag tag players and All-Star Damien Lilliard can make
some noise this year.
