Facebook has been a major success ever
since its debut in 2004. Prior to Facebook people used social sites such as
Myspace and Bebo. Facebook quickly took over the market and eventually knocked several
social sites off the market. The pressing question now is why do people join Facebook
and continue to return? There are 3 main reason why I think individuals favor Facebook
which includes that it allows you to connect with different groups, it’s
trendy, and it enables people to communicate in a different way.
Unlike other social sites Facebook allows
you to connect with varies groups of people. Whether it’s family, friends or
coworkers, Facebook is a central ground for socializing with them all. Along
with that Facebook is continuously making changes to help better ensure that
you can connect with everyone. From basic structure advancements to short video
publishing, the site does it all. “Although
no one forces you to have a Facebook account, if you want to network in your
career or gain more business for your company, joining Facebook may seem like a
prerequisite. Employees post job openings, groups advertise when they are
meeting and individuals post social gatherings on event pages and do not
mention them anywhere else (Casey Kennedy, 2011).” This is a prime example of Facebooks
capabilities.
Facebooks ability to help people connect and effectively
communicate with whomever they choose, along with continuous change and
progressive makes some people want to join and keeps them coming back for more.
Facebook is so no signs of slowing down and as the years go on I’m sure it will
only get bigger and better. It’s amazing how far a 19-year-old Harvard student has
come and many are eager to see what may be next.
