Thank you for all that you are and are striving to be. You’ve been
placed in a world that dismisses, undervalues, and abuses you but yet you
continue to thrive.
The radiance of your skin in various shades, the beauty of your
kinky, curly crown, nothing compares. You reassure me that it’s okay to be
unapologetically black and proud.
My God you are the epitome of everything magical and majestic. This
one is for you. For all of the Black Women who had to raise kids on their own
and never once complained, for the Black Women who’ve had to scrape up every
penny to afford a college degree, for all of the Black Women who are still
struggling every day but refuse to give up.
Your sheer resilience gives me strength and belief in myself. When
I look into your eyes, I can see your pain and uncertainty. But with one glance
of your smile, all of that fades away and I can feel your #BlackGirlMagic radiating
and smothering any doubt.
You’re continuously evolving, from rocking big hoops, to eccentric
hair, and stiletto nails. Although many may try to imitate you were the
original. You’ve created your own culture filled with style, you’re the bomb
baby !
You amaze me with your strength and perseverance. No one struggle
is the same and It’s never been easy for you. Whether you’ve had to raise
children on your own, scrape up every penny to get that college degree, or just
trying to keep your head above water and succeed in any way you can.
On top of everything else you’re constantly plagued with the term
“angry black woman” whenever you decide to speak your mind. In a recent study
when the consortium sent out a survey to African-American and white women about
the portrayals of black women in the media, 60 percent said that they were
“argumentative”, stated Michael Harriot
What they don’t understand is that anger is really passion. Passion
for what you believe and stand for and they’re starting to see that that will
never be silenced.
Thank you for being resilient, thank you for never quitting, thank
you for being brilliant and inspiring me every day to be a Proud Black Woman.
